Winter Festivals

The Creative Craft Fair is a three day affair held in November at Victoria’s Pearkes Recreation Centre. The fair attracts a large crowd as it’s so perfect for Christmas shopping; there are over 125 creative vendors selling their crafts, fine art, photography, gourmet foods, glass art, clothing, jewellery, woodwork, and pottery. You’re sure to find a perfect gift here, either for yourself or someone else! For dates of the fair please visit

Held in the luxurious lobby of the Fairmont Empress Hotel, the Festival of Trees is an event wherein local businesses and organizations engage in a friendly competition of decorating Christmas trees. Beginning in November and going through the holidays, the event raises funds for the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. Free to attend, but donations gladly welcome, come and wander through a fantastic forest of whimsy.

For ten days in February the Victoria Film Festival will keep you entertained and out of the rain. Not your average blockbuster the festival shows 150 independent films, both international and Canadian, at six different venues throughout the city. The festival views film as an important creative tool that can be used to inspire the viewer, interrogate the world, and instigate critical dialogue about the diversity of our lives and lifestyles. The movies encompass all genres so there is something for everyone. Members can purchase either VIP passes or tickets to individual showings. A local’s favourite: every year beginning in late February and going until mid March a large variety of restaurants offer three course menus for a set and discounted price. An average of about fifty to sixty restaurants participate, from family friendly to fine dining, giving you the opportunity to explore Victoria’s culinary culture for $20, $30, $40, or $50 depending on the establishment. Many outlets make an effort to provide mouth-watering vegetarian and gluten free courses as well, however, if you do have dietary restrictions (or just curiosity!) menus for the event are available online if you’d like to survey the satiating smorgasbord beforehand.
